I was recently contacted by BWI (a Global Union Federation grouping free and democratic unions to promote the development of trade unions throughout the world and to promote and enforce workers’ rights in the context of sustainable development) to illustrate an image for COP 28 highlighting climate change’s impact on construction workers–specifically in Dubai where COP 28 is being held. The image is intended to highlight the disparity of, for example, the workers who built the Burj Khalifa, the company that employed the workers, and the people who can afford to live there.
A former contact at Greenpeace (Maria Elena Di Matteo, credited with me in the illustration) had the idea for the image and put BWI in contact with me. I feel so lucky to have global connections with amazing people doing important work. I hope the image helps give a voice to the voiceless.
