I worked with Mike Casey of Tigercomm on this one. Here’s Mike:
On “This Week in Cleantech,” Paul Gerke and I often cover stories on the anti-cleantech skulduggery by elected officials the fracking lobby’s rented. For some reason, Texas and Ohio (my home state) are over-represented.
I recently suggested that these two legislatures were competing to send the most people to the National Village Idiot Convention. Members of Congress have usually dominated its attendees list.
So, here we are in a situation Joe Mohr skillfully captured. Ideology-over-reality politicians working overtime to wreck America’s path to lowest-cost energy sources, plus the jobs and energy security they bring. Their public rationale is so dumb, it’s hard to stomach.
A long-time friend and senior staffer in national politics once said to me:
“All these [politicians] are full of it. Almost all of them know that they’re full of it. And most of them know you know that they’re full of it. But a few actually think you don’t know that they’re full of it. Those are the ones that create the trouble.” [Note: I dropped the first two letters off my friend’s use of the word “it” in that quote.]
Once… just once…. wouldn’t it be nice if one of these anti-clean energy fools just leveled with us and said something like:
“I really don’t know what I’m talking about. I lack experience developing companies. And I don’t know anything about climatology that the climatologists have missed. I don’t care that you guys create jobs and economic growth in my state. Or that you’re the lowest-cost source of energy, or that you lessen our dependence on foreign adversaries. The incumbent fossil fuel lobby gives me a lot of campaign money. They might even give me a job after I leave politics. So piss off. I’m going to help them and hurt you.”
At least we wouldn’t need to post this cartoon speculating on their motivation or intelligence levels.
