When the sticker begins with 8 that does not mean the food is genetically modified.
That just means it is not organic. Apples are not genetically modified.
They do have a lot of pesticides and herbicides on them. They may be number 1 of the foods that are not safe to eat.

4 digit #’s that begin with 3 or 4 mean conventional or “not organic”. PLU stickers that have 5-digits and start with an 8 mean the produce was genetically engineered (man intervened by manipulating the genes to produce a larger or brighter colored food). And that the produce may have been chemically treated. 9 denotes organic.
I don’t think the GE apple (“Arctic Apple”) is on the market currently, but it has been in testing since 2003. But, the cartoon is more saying nothing is safe. If it’s not GE now it can be someday…Sad but true.
